Microvascular health analysis. In a blood sample.

Our Mission

We want to equip doctors, drug developers and scientists with the tools to easily assess microvascular heath and disease, enabling earlier and more precise diagnoses for patients, and the development of new vascular medicines.

Our Science

The endothelial glycocalyx: A dynamic biochemical indicator of microvascular health and disease

The endothelial glycocalyx is a dynamic, sugar-rich layer that lines the inner surface of all blood vessels in the body, serving as the primary interface between circulating blood and the vessel wall. This structure regulates molecular transport between blood and tissues and is crucial for vascular function.

Biochemical alterations of the endothelial glycocalyx are implicated in many different diseases, including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes, and sepsis., making it a valuable biomarker for evaluating microvascular health and disease.

Our technology enables routine analysis of endothelial glycocalyx in a blood sample

Analysing endothelial glycocalyx biochemistry currently requires invasive tissue biopsies and high-resolution microscopy. This limits the utility of endothelial glycocalyx as a biomarker for doctors, scientists and drug developers.

Through world-leading research led by the Bristol Renal research group at University of Bristol, we have developed a rapid and robust method of analysing glycocalyx biochemistry using newly identified biomarker signatures in a blood sample.

About us

Founded in 2025, we are a spinout from the Bristol Renal research group in the University of Bristol Medical School. Our founding team combines the expertise of these world-leading microvascular and glycocalyx researchers with experienced spinout operators and biosensor development specialists. We are based within the Science Creates ecosystem in central Bristol.
